Which do you think is more effective, hand sanitizer or washing your hands with soap? I think washing your hands is better.
To find out the answer researchers ran a test. Sixty-eight primary (elementary) schools in New Zealand had their students wash their hands with soap and then use sanitizer too. In other schools the children just washed with soap and water. After twenty weeks of studying, the amount of sicknesses in the two different categories were
the same amount! Also recent British study showed that using soap without anything else could kill three times as many germs as hand sanitizer!
That proves that hand sanitizing makes no difference than washing your hands!
But just one test probably isn’t enough proof. So here is another one.
“Good Morning America” put some students in the Maryland University on the test to find out what we should wash with. They put E.coli bacteria on their hands to see what could wash it off best (they used the harmless E. coli bacteria).
Then whatever bacteria was left they swabbed it on these special incubation plates. First they tried regular hand sanitizer. Then they tried antibacterial sanitizer. Next they tried the same with soap. They kept on getting E.coil onto their hands, washing their hands, and swabbing their hands into the incubator. They washed for 20 seconds each time. Caroline Rocourt, one of the scientists, was surprised at how long 20 seconds were. Three days later they got the results.
There is barely any difference between antibacterial products and regular products! It’s almost undetectable! Isn’t that strange?
I think people will be buying more normal products than antibacterial, and less hand sanitizer.
