What is the book about?
The book is about Danny, his dad, and a deep, dark secret.
Can you let on the secret?
Let's just say that Danny's dad has an overwhelming urge to do a certain something, which, despite its risks, is terribly exhilarating for him. And that the secret involves raisins, powdered sleeping pills, a large pram, and some two hundred pheasants!
A mean landowner named Mr. Victor Hazell.
Although Danny the Champion of the World is a fictional story, some details are drawn from Dahl's own life. In the book Danny and his dad live in a "real old gipsy wagon with big wheels and fine patterns painted all over it in yellow and red and blue." This is identical to the wagon Dahl kept in his own yard, and in which he and his children spent a considerable amount of their time.
